Adaptive Transparency Changed How I Walk Through My Own City

The feature I did not ask for is the one I now refuse to give up.

I came to the AirPods Pro for the noise cancelling and stayed for the opposite. The second generation, out since September 2022 and later nudged to USB C, leans on Apple's H2 chip to soften the world rather than seal it out, and that adaptive transparency has quietly rewired my commute.

I used to choose between a podcast and the city. Now I get both: the traffic still warns me, a friend can still say hello, and the harsh edges, a slamming gate, a passing siren, get gently shaved down.

It is the same instinct I keep circling around with glasses. The best wearable does not replace the world in front of you. It edits it, lightly, and then steps back. I did not know I wanted my ears to do that until they did.
