Adaptive Transparency Changed How I Walk Through My Own City
The feature I did not ask for is the one I now refuse to give up.
I came to the AirPods Pro for the noise cancelling and stayed for the opposite. The second generation, out since September 2022 and later nudged to USB-C, leans on Apple's H2 chip to soften the world rather than seal it out, and that adaptive transparency has quietly rewired my commute.
I used to choose between a podcast and the city. Now I get both: the traffic still warns me, a friend can still say hello, and the harsh edges, a slamming gate, a passing siren, get gently shaved down.
It is the same instinct I keep circling around with glasses. The best wearable does not replace the world in front of you. It edits it, lightly, and then steps back. I did not know I wanted my ears to do that until they did.
