Forty Minutes Inside the Vision Pro, and the Quiet Walk Home
It is astonishing. It is also a lot. Somewhere between those two facts is the thing I actually want.
I booked the Apple Store demo the way you book a fairground ride, and it delivered. The Vision Pro, on sale in the US from February 2024 at $3,499, is the most convincing screen I have ever had wrapped around my head. The dinosaur leaned out. I flinched. I laughed.
Then I took it off and walked home, and the walk is what stayed with me. The headset wants to become the room. It is generous and total and slightly exhausting, the way a very good film can leave you blinking in the lobby.
I do not want my eyes given a room. I want them handed a single useful sentence and then left alone. The Vision Pro clarified that for me by being its opposite, beautifully. I am grateful to it for showing me, so precisely, the thing I am not looking for.
